5 Things Every Startup Should Know About Generating Leads

Generating leads is one of the most important things that a startup can figure out how to do. A lead is simply somebody who has expressed interest in your business in some way. If someone downloads a guide, that’s a lead. If someone signs up to your newsletter, that’s a lead. There are all kinds of people that could qualify as leads! 


As somebody who has done something similar to that mentioned above, they are now inside of your sales funnel and you have permission to contact them. For obvious reasons, this creates more opportunities for you to sell what you have to offer. These leads aren’t simply going to knock down your door, though! Below, we’ll look at 5 things every startup should know about generating leads. 


  1. Create Plenty Of Opt In Opportunities Across Your Site 

The first thing you need to do is make sure you create plenty of opt in opportunities – create so many that your audience find it difficult to avoid them! You could create live demos, webinars, worksheets, resource guides, and anything else you can think of. Give them the opportunity to opt in as much as you can. 


  1. Test Your Site As Much As You Can 

The next thing you need to make sure you’re doing is testing as much as you can. When you test often, you can hone your website and make sure you have the very best version possible. Split test by looking at things like the following:

  • Images
  • Colors
  • Fonts 
  • Word choice 


Something as seemingly insignificant as a color change for your call to action button or your word choice can make a huge difference to your results. Even changing ‘your’ to ‘my’ when asking somebody to create an account can increase your conversions! Try it for yourself and make sure you continuously test to get the best results. 



  1. Write Professional Ads (Or Hire Somebody)

Work on writing professional ads that get results. If you struggle to do this, the best thing you can do is hire a professional to do it for you. They’ll be able to put together enticing content that actually makes people want to click through when they come across an ad. 


  1. Create Quality Content Across The Board 

Not only do your ads need to be written properly, you need to be creating quality content across the board. This means content on your site, your social pages, and anywhere else you post. Remaining professional and sticking to a brand voice across emails is important too, so remember this for the times you need to follow up with your leads. Businesses need email hosting for effective communication, so have this in place too. 


  1. Give Better Offers 

Offer something your audience can’t refuse. Things like free consultations that provide real value. What can you offer that will make people want to work with you, or at least learn more?
