Premises

It’s a well-known fact that our surroundings actually make a big difference to our productivity. Our mental health can be affected negatively if our surroundings are uncomfortable and dreary. So it goes without saying that if your premises for your business aren’t great, then you are going to have a potential problem. Sometimes we outgrow our current location, and sometimes we just need to change to upgrade our business and search for office for rent. But some key points to look out for our lighting, space, location, And suitability for your particular business. Of course, if your business is to ship products worldwide, and the location doesn’t make much difference to you then the only thing you need to worry about is safety, and the ability for staff to travel there. If you don’t mind disruptions since you aren’t on the phone then you may find lower rates next to train lines, for example, there are many different options and ways to ensure that you aren’t paying more than you should. Either way choosing to upgrade your premises will undoubtedly improve your business in general. Your staff may be happier, you may have more room than you ever thought possible, and it will grow with your expanding enterprise. Many considerations need to be made on the physical side of moving premises of course, but aside from logistics companies, and the IT guys that will be required to run everything, it should be pretty straightforward.

Processes

Processes should always be put in place before you start any business. However, it’s not always as straightforward as this, a lot of how a company runs is set by trial and error sometimes. If you do have processes in place, then it’s always a good idea to give them a good overhaul, and make sure that you are using processes that benefit the business, don’t waste time, and are in line with any legislation, Laws or rules that you need to abide by. Processes are there for a reason if a person isn’t in work because they are ill if you have a problem with the supplier, there isn’t a process in place, or you go ahead with the service without a contract and following the correct procedure for this contract. You may find yourself in hot water more than you would like. You can’t account for every eventuality, but having processes in place for every department and every eventuality, will be a great way to ensure your business thrives.

People

Hiring people is a stressful and complicated process if you allow it to be. But finding the right people for the right job doesn’t necessarily have to be a one time deal. You can always expand, and change things as you go, but one fantastic investment you can make to upgrade your business is in training. Even if the people you have hired are highly trained in their field, and are keen to work for you in the best of their abilities, added training will always level up your business. This doesn’t have to be a point where you find a person is lacking in a specific area in your opinion, and then train them in that area, it can be as simple as making sure that the member of staff is happy in their role, and that they are confident in everything that they are doing for you. To keep track of this regular personal development plans are essential, finding those gaps and discovering where the lack of confidence may be, is an important task, and will prevent potential HR disasters further down the line. If you are lacking in that area, then you will find gaps and problems that you just don’t need in your business.
