One of the most important things for your business is having strong branding. This is what will make your brand recognisable both to your consumers and to stand out against your competition. Your branding is the tone of voice in the things that you post, the images you share, the messages you convey and the colours you use. It is the marketing materials you present, the theme of your website and how you use social media. Your brand image is essentially the perception of your company that your customers and potential consumers will get. It is what gives you a reputation and is something that will grow with you as your business expands.

When you are thinking of your branding, it is important that you consider a few important elements. Think about why you started your business, who you are aiming your business at and what makes you special. Think of words that you would use to describe your company and how you want to be perceived. All of these are important when trying to decide on the branding that you will use for your company. It is a good idea to test out different branding ideas – you could do an A/B test or a survey to find out different people’s opinions.

Here are some top tips for branding and how to develop strong branding for your business…

  • Think about what you want to convey: What sort of business are you promoting? You want your branding such as your fonts and your brand colours to reflect this. If you are a lawyer or an Estate Sales Business you are going to want something a lot more serious than a wedding photography business or a craft blog for example. These will all reflect what your business does and how people will think of you when they see your logo or website.
  • Don’t choose too many colours: One of the most common mistakes that people make when choosing their branding is opting for too many colours. You don’t want it to give people a headache when they look at it! It is a good idea to choose three colours – your base colour, your access colour and a neutral colour. This will ensure that your customers are interested, engaged, but it is also consistent and recognisable throughout.

  • Remember that your logo is not your brand: Building your brand is completely different to just a logo, this is simply an accompaniment to your branding. A logo is essentially a visual symbol for your business, but it does not build the brand.
  • Remember to keep it consistent: You want your brand identity to be consistent throughout and not to feel mismatched. If you have a relaxed tone of voice on social media, but a super formal tone on your website and newsletter then it won’t quite add up. You want it to flow easily and to be easily recognisable no matter when you are talking or conveying your message.

These are a few top tips for developing a strong branding and how it can help you today.
